Tattoo Tuesday V.95

Name and blog name: Carly Kmyta, www.carlykmyta.com

Age: 22

Occupation: Blogger, Photographer, Tattoo Artists Wife / Appointment lady!

Age of first tattoo: 18

Favorite tattoo: All! For a million different reasons.

Artist/shop/location of feature tattoo: Captains Tattoo - Spencer Kmyta

1) Tell us about your featured tattoo- is there a background story about why you chose it, or maybe a special meaning?

I don't really know how I could pick just one tattoo. I really have a weird emotional attachment to each one for different reasons. My whole right arm especially. Just over 4 years ago, when I had first met Spencer, he was moving to England, where he was going to pursue his Tattoo Career. I guess he must have liked me or something, because he came back home, we moved in together. I knew he was terrified to do it, but I forced him to practice on my arm. My Darby tattoo was the first one he gave me. I love it. Darby is what everyone used to call my Gramma. She was one of my best friends, so I guess if I had to pick, it would be my favourite!

2) Do you have any other tattoos? If so, what do you have and where?

I've got a Ship on my arm, a Gypsy lady, a Day of the Dead with a Mom banner, an Anchor.. on my right arm I have another Gypsy Lady, a Robin sitting on a Sherlock Holmes pipe in a frame for my best friend, a Birdie, a Butterfly, and a bunch of Roses and Peonies in progress. I have a kitty on my foot, my inner lip used to say Balls, and on my thigh I have a Snake wrapped around a Diamond.

3) Do you plan on getting more?

Yes! We are in the works of drawing up the prettiest chest piece :)

4) How do your family and friends feel about your tattoo(s)? Have you run into any adversity or negativity because of them? Do you have a significant other? Does he/she have tattoos?

Well, my Mama loves them. My first tattoo ( my Day of the Dead skull with Mom banner - by Nigel Lucas ) was obviously for her. When I slowly started to fill up my arms, I think she panicked a little, but she got over it really quick.. and now her back is covered. I did hide my tattoos from my Gramma for a while. I was horrified she was going to beat my ass. When it finally leaked out, she loved them too. Well, who am I kidding. She did beat my ass, but whenever someone would tell her how horrible it was, she'd defend me.

I'd say it's about a 50/50 with negativity. I've been shopping before, completely covered up and people love me, but as soon as I take off my Jacket or sweater, people freeze up and are instantly rude. When I was shopping for my Wedding Dress, no one would help me. The ladies at the front desk stared at me. I think it really just depends. Chilliwack ( where I live ) isn't a big city. It's pretty small, and I'm pretty sure we have enough churches to go around. Spence and I were out grabbing crown molding for the shop when we were giving it a makeover, and an older lady walked past us on our way in, shook her head, stopped dead, started at us and said "that's absolutely disgusting!" But, the other half of the time, people love them. Sometimes a little bit too much. Old ladies in the hair salon loooove to hear about them...and touch them? hahaha.

My husband is my tattoo artist, and we run our shop together. He's pretty cute! We've been married just over 2 years.

 5) What's the most interesting experience you've ever had in regards to your tattoos?

Hmmmm I don't really know. After my tattoo appointments I usually inhale a Big Xtra with cheese, large fries, chocolate shake and an apple pie?

6) Any advice for those interested in getting tattooed but haven't gotten one yet?

I'd say, don't rush anything.. but just do it. Take your time and find an artist that has a similar style to what you're going for. Make sure you love it, it'll be there forever. I'd probably also say, don't get something tiny. I promise you, you'll probably hate it in a few months and wish it was bigger.

Tattoo Tuesday V.97

Name and blog name: Kierstan Burke and I just have a tumblr.

Occupation: I work part time as a bartender and part time as a cake decorator.

Age of first tattoo: I was 16. My dad drove me to Idaho to get it. I really wish he would have just made me wait. All the tattoos I got before the age of 20 are all covered up at this point.

Favorite tattoo: I have 3 favorites! My wolf head on my thigh, my portrait of Clara Bow, and my best friend "avada kedavra" matching finger tattoo.

Featured tattoo/location: My wolf's head with a dagger! It's on my inner right thigh

Artist/shop/location of feature tattoo: It was done by James Fanara at Boar's Head Tattoo in Spokane, WA.

Tell us about your featured tattoo- is there a background story about why you chose it, or maybe a special meaning?

I really was just in the right place at the right time. I had gone into the shop to drop off a scarf that I had borrowed from the wife of one of the artists. James had drawn up the wolf's head that day, and wanted to tattoo it badly. So I got it!

Do you have any other tattoos? If so, what do you have and where?

I have two tattoos in progress, my back piece, and my left sleeve. I have a panther on my back, and a my peacock on my left arm. I have my right arm basically finished minus some stars and dots on my upper arm. On my arm I have cupcakes, roses I ha, a grandfather clock, two owls, some sailor jerry flash as filler, a phillies p, and a cupcake themed sugar skull. Several on my left leg. they are a gypsy girl, golden snitch, Hedwig holding the sorting hat, Clara Bow portrait, avocado, roses, a tea cup, a tator tot, and a boar's head. On my right leg I have a pin up girl, my wolfs head, an elephant on my kneecap and a bearded lady. My knuckles say bake cake, a couple chest tattoos, a heart on my face, a toaster on my foot, and lastly an owl on my hip.

Do you plan on getting more?

I'm actually getting my hands done next week!

How do your family and friends feel about your tattoo(s)? Have you run into any adversity or negativity because of them? Do you have a significant other? Does he/she have tattoos?

My dad loves them, however I am from a strict religious background, so most of my family do not approve. I live in a conservative town, so the biggest issue I have had since moving here is finding a job. I have people ask me all the time if I have gone to jail. But even with the downsides there are always the good. I do have a significant other. He is actually a tattoo artist, although he hasn't tattooed me! He has his entire torso/ribs/back done and two sleeves.
What's the most interesting experience you've ever had in regards to your tattoos?

I had a woman last summer left the skirt of my dress above my waist to see my leg tattoos without asking. I was just standing in front of store on my phone.

Any advice for those interested in getting tattooed but haven't gotten one yet?

Choose an artist wisely. There are so many scratcher shops around these days. Just be careful, and know that you get what you pay for. If you want to go to this shop because you can get a sleeve for $80 it will look like you got it for $80. But besides that, I love all my tattoos, and I would encourage anyone to get one!

Name and blog name: Rachel Gonzales // everythingspretty.blogspot.com & shessostrange.tumblr.com
*quick note: Rachel's blogspot is new, so head on over and say hello! I've known her for a long time and she's a total sweetheart.
Age: 26
Occupation: Usually a Server/Bartender. Currently a homemaker for me, the boyfriend and our pooch, Poppy. Amateur blogger.
Age of first tattoo: I was 17. It was an at home DIY tattoo I did with all of my friends and roommates. A really bad and really ugly long legged spider on my left elbow. Don't ask me why I picked that. I have no idea. Must've blacked out or something...
Favorite tattoo: My diamond under my chin. Simple. Hidden. In a place most people don't get tattooed. That or my angry tooth on my forearm.
Featured tattoo/location: I'll feature my armpit. Totoro (Not colored yet) yelling PARTY TIME!
Artist/shop/location of feature tattoo: Mykil Zep at No Regrets Tattoo in Tempe, Arizona. Awesome dude! He no longer works there and he has moved himself, his family and his craft to work at a shop in San Diego.

1) Tell us about your featured tattoo- is there a background story or special meaning? Why did you choose this particular piece of art?

Well, I set up the appointment to get my armpit done on a whim (as I have done with most of my tattoos). I was sitting at the bar of a place I used to work at with my friend Steve-O tossing back and fourth each other's tattoo ideas and it just kind of popped into my head. Party time. So whenever I raise my arm in celebration people are gonna see it and be like, "Yes. It is time to party." Haha very silly I know. But fun and spontaneous. I wanted to get some kind of character yelling party time so I went with Totoro. You'd see him if you were about to watch a studio Ghibli film such as "Spirited Away" or "My Neighbor Totoro." I am in LOVE with all of the movies by Hayao Miyazaki. He embodies such imagination and adventure. I lose my mind every time I watch. I almost backed out though. The thought of getting your armpit tattooed is really scary! But it ended up not being even close to as bad as I thought. And I've had some great reactions from people when they spot it.

2) Do you have any other tattoos? If so, what do you have and where?

Yes. I've got what I like to call my "crap arm". A bunch of tattoos that don't coincide making up a sleeve (kinda). A koi in a pond making up a half sleeve on my upper left arm. Following on my elbow is a very dark spider in a web covering the DIY spider I did when I was 17. It was done by a friend, Tyler Densley, when he was just starting to tattoo. Now he does the most beautiful and amazing tattoos. I kinda wish I waited... On my forearm I've got an unfinished diamond with two roses. Then I have the nickname I have for my best friend Tiffany next to that. I went and got that one on a Friday the 13th thirteen dollar tattoo day. On my hand I have a rose with a lock, two keys and a heart of thorns. And on my fingers the word I live by, POSITIVE. I have an anchor on my thigh but hate how it turned out so I plan on changing it quite a bit. Small stars and little dots by my right eye. A fiery lotus on my chest (my first REAL tattoo) that often is mistaken for a campfire. People have even asked if it was teeth..... Then script "Ce Soir Me Faire Irresistible" on my chest. And lastly, My angry tooth man. I for 3 years had a very bad, very painful molar. It bled. It created infection. It kicked my ass. I've only been to the dentist once when I was 4. It's weird, expensive and I don't care to go either way. So one day I pushed on that tooth and kept pushing till that sucker just came right out!! And ever since I haven't had even the slightest problem with it. So I got a commemorative tattoo just for him.

3) Do you plan on getting more?

Absolutely. I need to fix and finish most of what I already have. And I really want to get my knees done. I enjoy being very colorful and I have a butt-load of ideas.

4) How do your family and friends feel about your tattoo(s)? Have you run into any adversity or negativity because of them? Do you have a significant other? Does he/she have tattoos?

Both my parents and my little sister have tattoos so there is no problem in that department. My dad has his arms and chest done and my mom has some on her back. I probably have more than they ever imagined I would get though.

Negativity wise, the only I've run into is getting jobs. I've even worked at a place where I was hired with tattoos and then later fired for having them. Corporate junk. I don't want to have a job where I cover up what I am and what I like to look like anyways. I like to have fun and plan on living in such a way.

My boyfriend Jason doesn't have any problem (that I know of) with my tattoos and doesn't have any. As far as I know he doesn't have any interest in getting any. He's as sweet as pumpkin pie just like his momma made him. She would probably kill him. She's very conservative and old fashioned. I'm scared to meet her.

5) Any advice for those interested in getting tattooed but haven't gotten one yet?

Well, I used to say, "Just go do it. You only live once and may never get the chance". But I don't fully agree with that anymore. Have fun but most tattoos that I have I don't like anymore, wish I would have put more thought into them and would change completely given the chance. Yes, I have good memories behind them and had a great time getting them but I see others tattoos that are so beautiful and full of color and unique, makes me with I had taken my time. So take your time I guess is my advice. Oh! And wear sunscreen!!

Name and blog name: Carynn Eren, Honest To Blog
Age: 23
Occupation: Fashion Design student/Nanny
Age of first tattoo: 18
Favorite tattoo: I think my back piece is my favorite, although it is not yet finished.
Featured tattoo/location: Mermaid on left side
Artist/shop/location of feature tattoo: Brent Vann @ Tattoo Revolution. Redlands, CA.

1) Tell us about your featured tattoo- is there a background story or special meaning? Why did you choose this particular piece of art?

The meaning of this tattoo doesn't go much deeper than the fact that I just love it. I have always been drawn to water and fantasies, (Any other Pisces out there?) so this was a perfect representation of things that I love. Plus, it's completed... and a lot of my other tattoos are not. You know how it goes.

2) Do you have any other tattoos? If so, what do you have and where?
Yep!

3) Do you plan on getting more?

I do have a few planned out and a couple of ideas in the works. I definitely want to get a friendship tattoo with both of my best friends and a tattoo of the moon. Eventually when I have my own family I'm sure I will get something representative of that love, as well. However, I think most of my tattoos will stay in places that can be kept to myself if I choose. Sometimes it's fun to keep a secret.

4) How do your family and friends feel about your tattoo(s)? Have you run into any adversity or negativity because of them?

No one in my family was exactly rooting for me when I started getting tattooed but it has no effect on how they treat me. A couple of years ago I was eating brunch at the country club with my grandmother and she even asked me to show my tattoos to the waitress, as if she was proud. That was special. I haven't received many negative comments from strangers but I think that is because most of my big tattoos are rarely visible, and I also live in San Diego where tattoos are not uncommon. It's funny that some people think tattoos are always of offensive things. Mine are all of flowers, butterflies, and mystical creatures. OOoOOoohhh.. watch out! I'm gonna rob your house! People are often surprised to find out that I have a face tattoo as well. You didn't see it? Check out that beauty mark! You think I was born with that? Sike!

5) Any advice for those interested in getting tattooed but haven't gotten one yet?

When you're getting tattooed, especially anywhere on the torso, (where most of mine are,) remember to breathe. Breathe big, deep, yoga breaths. Breathing deeply will keep you way more relaxed and take the attention off of the pain. The first time I got my ribs tattooed I was nervous to breathe deeply because I thought I would mess up what the artist was doing. That's dumb. Breathe.

Name and blog name: Hannah.... and badbaby.tumblr.com I suppose!

Age: 20

Occupation:
art student by day and restaurant worker by night

Age of first tattoo:
"real" tattoo, 18.....but I have a few stick 'n pokes so 17.

Favorite tattoo:
I can't choose! Usually my newest tattoo is my favorite...so my elk. And my thigh piece. Oh, and my inner arm...

Featured tattoo/location:
lady on my upper arm

Artist/shop/location of feature tattoo: Jason Kundell of Artwork Rebels, but it was done at Landmark Tattoo in Denver, Colorado.

1) Tell us about your featured tattoo- is there a background story or special meaning? Why did you choose this particular piece of art?

My cousin Jason has been coming to Denver once a year for the past few years so usually I just think up something for him to do on me- he did my thigh tattoo as well. I told him that I wanted a lady with roses and a compass, and he said he wanted to put a hat on her, and i said okay. Now people will stop me on the street to ask if it's Amelia Earhart. I've been asked probably approximately one million times if my tattoo is Amelia Earhart, so i've just started saying yes because if I saw my tattoo, I'd probably assume it was her as well. but to me my tattoo is a good luck charm for traveling. I want to see the world and this lady on my arm's gonna come with me!

2) Do you have any other tattoos?  If so, what do you have and where?

Okay... stick and poked leaves on my foot, stick and poked heart and arrow around a birthmark on my butt, story book characters from the magical monarch of mo on my wrists, a key on my ring finger, a cicada with a blue rose on my inner arm, a girl with goggles and a compass on my upper arm, an elk with a banner that says rail city on my arm, a skull with an ostrich feather and a heart on my thigh, a fox with a pocket watch on my inner calf, a girl with a crow hat and a orchid on my outer calf...phew!

3) Do you plan on getting more?

Yes! at the rate I'm going I assume I'm going to be pretty heavily tattooed in the near future.

4) How do your family and friends feel about your tattoo(s)?  Have you run into any adversity or negativity because of them? Do you have a significant other? Does he/she have tattoos?

A lot of my friends have tattoos and my boyfriend has a couple tattoos. My dad is kind of indifferent and my mom hates tattoos. Although my mom seems like she is slowly warming up to them- she likes to look at them a lot, and my dad is 61 and is actually considering getting his first tattoo! My cousin is a successful tattooer and I've idolized him since I was a tot, so my mom kind of knew what was coming. I get really kind comments on my tattoos, I've had old women stop me to look at them! My ears are stretched too, and I've gotten far worse comments on them than my tattoos. And of course the ol' "what are you going to do when you're old?" ...what do you mean what am i going to do?

5) Any advice for those interested in getting tattooed but haven't gotten one yet?

Do it! Getting tattooed has brought me so much happiness and made me feel more comfortable and confidant- know that because of your tattoos, finding a job may be more difficult, and accept that. Tattoos will catch on someday. Do your homework and find an artist that you LOVE. And if you can, let your artist do most of the work! I find that when I give my artist a vague idea and let him do
what he wants that it turns out AMAZING! Also- not all tattoos HAVE to have a long meaning behind them, sometimes I get tattooed because I think it's aesthetically pleasing, and that's not a bad thing.

Name and blog name: Allie Maddox  charmedgirl.tumblr.com
Age: 32
Occupation: esthetician
Age of first tattoo: 14
Favorite tattoo: sugar skull on back
Featured tattoo/location: cupcake on left forearm
Artist/shop/location of feature tattoo: Grant Cobb/ Tattoo Paradise DC

1) Tell us about your featured tattoo- is there a background story or special meaning? Why did you choose this particular piece of art?

Its a pink cupcake with a "Let Them Eat Cake" banner, its girly, pretty and so clean! My nickname is Cupcake, and I love Marie Antoinette's famous words, I think they go perfectly together. Plus I love the colors. I get the most compliments on my cupcake.

2) Do you have any other tattoos?  If so, what do you have and where?

heart padlock on my right arm, Varga girl pin up on my right arm, lots of roses on underside my right arm, Purple rose on my left front shoulder, a heart on the back of my neck with the words 'Plus Que Ma Propre Vie" written on it- translates to "More Than My Own Life", sugar skull on my back, 2 Diamonds, one in my ditch, one on my right wrist with the word "Loyalty" above it, a classic girl head on my right arm, a key on my right arm. Both of my sisters names, "Paige Marie" on my right arm below my ditch, and "Courtney Anne" on the same place on the left arm above the pink cupcake! cupcake behond my right  ear, evil apple tattoo on my left wrist. The last two are bro tats with besties:)

3) Do you plan on getting more?

Yes, I plan on getting one dedicated to my unborn baby girl! I'm 4 months pregnant!

4) How do your family and friends feel about your tattoo(s)?  Have you run into any adversity or negativity because of them? Do you have a significant other? Does he/she have tattoos?

Most of friends have tattoos so theyre appreciative of them. I do have some friends who just don't understand why I would want them. My family - particularly my parents- were a little less accepting of them. But they're from a different generation. This generation is way more expressive. I do get negativity all the time from them, from people saying "how could you do that to your body?", especially at work. And I dont even work in an office or a conservative environment, but people always have their opinions. I have a significant other- TJ- and yes he has tattoos. But not as many as I do :)

5) Any advice for those interested in getting tattooed but haven't gotten one yet?

JUST DO IT, dont think too hard about it, it will drive you crazy if you do. And listen to the artist, sometimes they know best, like what would look good and where. Let them have some of the creative control and you'll get a better tattoo.
